“You have to put yourself out there to get what you want.” - Michael Caine That’s just one life lesson Michael Caine shares from his 60+ years in the movie business and living a full long life. He recalls his time in the National Service as the worst experience but most valuable. He was part a gang as a young man but had an interesting take on the why. Michael said ”(kids) join gangs not to attack you but to protect themselves”. He mentions the people he came up with in the entertainment industry which is a fascinating cavalcade of who’s who of the times – late 1950’s through to today. One unexpected bit of information is that Michael Caine gives insights into the business of making movies. Since listening to this audio book, I find myself looking for his tips on film making being used. The story he relates is serious and lighthearted at the same time. It’s a very humble and real sharing of his career successes and near misses. He is grateful, thankful, and appreciative of his opportunities and credits timing and preparedness throughout. Micheal Caine tells about a script we was sent and that after he read the part for the romantic lead, he then found out they wanted him for the father part – ouch but he took it in stride. (Since my retirement) “…I may no longer get the girl but I’m still getting the parts.” - Michael Caine This audio book is read by Michael Caine which makes the telling of his life story even more intimate and personal. He taps his ample voice talents to bring these reminiscences to life. This autobiography takes you through his career “from Alfie to Alfred” – his break out role to his later work. I had forgotten all the serious and humorous roles I have enjoyed him in – Sleuth, Deathtrap, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels to name a few. This is time well spent listening to Michael Caine share his life story.
