I enjoyed this title, the third in the series. Carter's research is always excellent, and I found this mystery centered around first celebrity chef Alexis Soyer and the world of Victorian haute cuisine interesting. Readers of the author's earlier titles knows that the sterner (and more stomach-turning) aspects of Victorian life and crime are not avoided. In "The Devil's Feast", Soyer's vision of a future with better nutrition and clean food preparation for the poor as well as the rich is endangered by a poisoner who Blake and Avery have a difficult time stopping.
