Jolene Zarkades and her next-door neighbor, Tami Flynn have been BFFs since they were 18. They joined the army right out of high school and qualified for the high school to flight school helicopter-pilot training. Both women currently serve in the Washington State National Guard where they are sometimes called upon to fly search and rescue missions for lost hikers, etc. Suddenly their unit, the Raptors, are called into service in Iraq. While both women are wives and mothers, their husbands couldn't be more different. Tami's husband, Carl is supportive about her career and upcoming deployment while Jo's Michael, is opposed to the war and resents her leaving the family. Going off to war in very different mind sets, Jo and Tami vow they will see each other through this deployment and make it home together. One night their helicopter is shot from the sky and both couples' worlds are turned upside down. Both women have been critically injured and are flown to a military hospital in Germany. As they fly to their wives bedsides, both Michael and Carl learn what it truly means to be a military family as they deal with the high cost of war.
