Add a CommentI really enjoyed this story, while perhaps some predictability, you can never go wrong with Nicholas Sparks.
My 50-page rule was applied to this book which means I made myself to read the first 50 pages to get interested. The rest of interesting, though, but a bit naive.
I enjoyed this story! Definitely one that kept me guessing and excited to read. I thought it was a great love story.
I am not wowed or moved by 'The Return'. While it's interesting enough, it's certainly not unputdownable.
The only constant in the 'The Return' is the lead character, a former orthopedic surgeon moving on from devastating wartime injuries. But the story is a ball of confusion as there is little weaving of the sub-plots. They sort of jump about all over the place. The major parts of the story are dealt with in snippets with the revelations conveniently coming out near the end of the book.
There are no tears with 'The Return'. There is no browsing back through memorable or moving passages. It's a good story but less than we know Nicholas Sparks to be capable.

I had a hard time getting into this book. Enough about the bees. Trevor Benson (war hero) comes to town to tend to his late grandfather's affairs. Natalie is a local police deputy with a huge weight on her shoulders. Callie is a teenage girl with problems of her own. The romance was lacking in this book for me. Also the story line was all over the place in my opinion. Not the best from Sparks.
Trevor Benson returns from Afghanistan broken physically and mentally. What better place than his Grandfather's home in New Bern California which he has inherited to recuperate. He finds solace in tending to the bees that are there. Will he find true love too? Let me not be a spoiler. Suffice it to say that the mystery of Callie and his grandfather's last garbled message keeps him busy . A love story with some mystery thrown in. Interesting if somewhat predictable.
Was looking forward to it, but found it slow and predictable. Guess they all can't be amazing! Lol. Still an enjoyable read but not my favourite
Sparks is back with a wounded Aghan veteran and romance in the woods.....
