Harriet is getting ready for her birthday party and makes sure all the costumes are just right. This book celebrates the power of imagination to get us through boring day-to-day chores & delightfully conveys Harriet's message: "I don't care about fitting in." Puns I enjoyed: "hatched a plan," & an idea "emerged from the sea." Another plus - Harriet happens to have two dads, married, one Black and one White. I appreciated that the story is not about that as an issue, but part of Harriet's life.

Fans of Not Quite Narwhal will enjoy spotting an picture of Narwhal hanging in Harriet's room.

Our 2yo adores this book and so do we! He's engaged, loves the characters, puts himself right into the adventure, and is relatively sure that it's almost time for his hot air balloon ride. A joy to read and look at.

Harriet's love of costumes is adorable and inspiring; the adventure in this book might be a bit too surreal for some readers.
