"A violent serial rapist is on the loose, who goes by the name Maude. She hunts for men at bars, online, at home--the place doesn't matter, neither does the man. Her victims then must live the aftermath of their assault in the form of doubt from the police, feelings of shame alienation from their friends and family and the haunting of a horrible woman who becomes the phantom on which society projects its greatest fears, fascinations and even misogyny. All the while the police are without leads and the media hound the victims, publicly dissecting the details of their attack. What is extraordinary is how as years pass these men learn to heal, by banding together and finding a space to raise their voices."--

An intense, unforgettable reading experience. It's the story of five different men who are all victims of a female serial rapist. The focus of the book is two-fold - firstly on the recovery experiences of the men and secondly on the ways that the press, social media, etc. handle the juicy story. Told through poetry, prose, drawings, online chatter transcripts, tweets, first-person monologues; it's unlike anything I've ever read. Chillling and awful, and I couldn't put it down.

Part verse, part talk show, part social media posts, Any Man explores sexual crimes toward men by a serial female rapist named "Maude" layered with social commentary on crime towards women.

I thought this book stunk.

Amber Tamblyn is truly a poet.I was deeply moved by her prose- I felt it in my bones. Sometimes, the way we feel can’t be put in a sentence, end with correct punctuation or sensible conclusion. Tamblyn understands this well. The victims of Maude, the female rapist, create no pattern, she is impulsive and diabolically thorough. I finished this book in one long sitting, I just needed to know WHODUNIT. But I’m happier to know the men who survived it. Beautiful. Disturbing. Sad. And utterly real.

Wow: the writing, the story, the pain, anger, sadness, trauma and hope. A tough and touchy subject matter, handled deftly, that had me racing through the pages, intent on learning the ending.
