I would never have guessed that a book about a self-centered 77 year-old man would be so interesting. Cesare leaves his comfort zone when he tries to help his new neighbour. He joins forces with 2 elderly residents in his condominium building, each with their own frailties, to come to her aid. Cesare's relationship with his family plays a prominent role in the story. The writing style is wry for such serious subject matter and this is very effective. The author's observations and analysis of his protagonist's character are thought provoking.
