"The Voss family is anything but normal. They live in a repurposed church, newly baptized Dollar Voss. The once cancer-stricken mother lives in the basement, the father is married to the mothers former nurse, the little half-brother isnt allowed to do or eat anything fun, and the eldest siblings are irritatingly perfect. Then, theres Merit. Merit Voss collects trophies she hasnt earned and secrets her family forces her to keep. While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan. His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into heruntil she discovers that hes completely unavailable. Merit retreats deeper into herself, watching her family from the sidelines, when she learns a secret that no trophy in the world can fix. Fed up with the lies, Merit decides to shatter the happy family illusion that shes never been a part of before leaving them behind for good. When her escape plan fails, Merit is forced to deal with the staggering consequences of telling the truth and losing the one boy she loves. Poignant and powerful, Without Merit explores the layers of lies that tie a family together and the power of love and truth."--Page [4] of cover.

I didn't enjoy this book as some of the other Colleen Hoover books I have read, however, that might be because as a person with anxiety I could relate to Merit and I didn't get as much out of the story as I did her other books! Overall, I thought it was a good story I just enjoyed some of her other books better!

This book did a good job of describing depression and how it can essentially sneak up on a person. It also highlighted how important being honest with people is, even if the truth isn't nice or going to make them feel good. I would recommend reading it, the narrator for the audio wasn't my favorite, she read every sentence like a question.

Fantastic! Meaningful in many ways. Members of a messed up family find their way. There is less focus on the romance and more about the phycological issues at hand. I don’t even want to talk about what this is all about...I enjoyed reading this without a clue what it was about. I even started out not liking it because of her young age and miserable disposition...but there a point to that. I was hooked very quickly. This would make a great movie.

This is my second Colleen Hoover book and it won't be my last. The conflict in Without Merit kept me fully engaged and interested in the main character, so much so that I was able to finish it in less than 12 hours. And I'll just be up front and disclose that when I end up snapping pictures of different passages within a book, it will usually receive a minimum of 3 stars from me. Overall, I'm looking forward to reading more books by Colleen Hoover.

This book was absolutely incredible - Colleen Hoover once again made me laugh, cry and want to read it all over again. The story captivated me for the entire 2 days it took me to read!

I am a huge fan of Colleen Hoover's novels. I have to be honest though, I wasn't the biggest fan of this one. I didn't like the main character for the majority of the book. While I appreciate the book's focus on mental illness, I felt that this was not one of Colleen Hoover's best works.
