"Remember when it all seemed to be getting better? Before Trump happened? What went wrong, and what can we do about it? Naomi Klein - scourge of brand bullies, disaster capitalists and climate liars - shows us how we got to this surreal and dangerous place, how to stop it getting worse and how, if we keep our heads, we can seize the opportunity to make it better. She reveals how Trump is not a freakish aberration, but an extension of the most powerful trends of the last century: celebrity and CEO-worship, Vegas and Guantanamo, soft porn and hard power, fake news and vulture bankers, all rolled into one. His election was not a peaceful transit but a corporate takeover, by people who've knowingly harmed people, societies and our planet. Now their deliberate shock tactics are generating wave after wave of crises, designed to disorientate us and stop us fighting back. This book is the toolkit for shock resistance, giving all of us what we need (including tips such as 'how to jam the brand' and 'kill your inner Trump') to win the argument and right their wrongs. Don't let them get away with it."-- Provided by publisher.

Klein, a Canadian, points out that the middle-class in American is hurting because economic inequality is as great as during the gilded age (which resulted in the Great Depression), but Clinton could not talk about it because she feared losing the millions of dollars in campaign finance from the 1%. Clinton should have more forceful on such topics as a higher minimum wage, improving the Affordable Care Act, stronger, equal pay for women, strong union rights, emphasis on retraining fossil fuel workers for renewable energy jobs, free public university and free post high school vocational job training, and elimination of the 15% tax rate for hedge funders, etc. Instead, who knows what she stood for.

The book that all your liberal friends will be reading over the next few months. A better subtitle might have been "Preaching to the Choir." I've followed Klein's work for years and think "The Shock Doctrine" is one of the most important political books of our time. Yet I found this, which admittedly is more tuned to the events of the past year and less research, to be a little underwhelming. Or, rather, I'm not sure who the audience is, other than liberals who already agree with most of what Klein says. StarGladiator and 1savvyvenus (see the first two comments) make some incoherent and unsubstantiated points, which would all do well to ignore. This could be a good gift for that cranky Republican in your life.

Excellent book.
I listened to the CD version, and really liked the woman voice of the woman who read it too.
Naomi Klein is an incredible wordsmith, and uses an engaging narrative, to connect and make sense of a variety of important recent events. There is a much bigger picture -- one that is largely not explained by any of the media -- but Klein shines a light on it.
I kept wondering throughout -- "What would be the response of Trump supporters to the facts that she shares?" I'd like to know.

You can read an excellent review of this book on the Real Change website; just type 'No is Not Enough' in the search box.

Better than THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING because of its slimmer size and greatly reduced number of footnotes, NO IS NOT ENOUGH is an excellent, concise intro to Naomi Klein's published work. Trump is the personification of modern corporate theory on hollow companies and the primacy of branding, which Klein covered in her first book, NO LOGO. Trump also personifies Klein's SHOCK DOCTRINE, having stepped out from his father's shadow during the mid-'70s NYC financial crisis to buy the Commodore Hotel at a fire-sale price (and fleecing the city of many millions in tax revenue). What's best about NO IS NOT ENOUGH is how Klein keeps bringing the discussion back to neoliberalism. Both Democrats and Republicans govern in its thrall. It's the doctrine that markets are always right and the public sphere is better after it has been privatized and the more corporate-managed multilateral trade deals the better. It is a bankrupt ideology that gave us Trump who won by running against it, saying he was going to tear up NAFTA and declare China a currency manipulator on day one of his presidency. Nine months later voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Wisconsin are still waiting.

You have got to be kidding me? The leftist ideology is killing this country. So blinded by fake news they are openly welcoming jihad into our country! Little do they know their immoral Godless heads will be the first to roll in the end.

[The day that Klein begins finally referring to the Bush Crime Family, and the Clinton Crime Family and the Trump Crime Family will be the day I would ever begin paying any attention to her.]
In the past I've considered Klein to be something of an uninforming lightweight, not given to providing much damning information. After her attacks on Edward Snowden and WikiLeaks' Julian Assange, I no longer even consider her that - - just a temporal honeypot, someone or group who wastes thoughtful people's time, or a redirection specialist, not worthy of attention [somewhat like Antonia Julasz, the oil company // activist \\ who NEVER, EVER names any names, doesn't believe such people as owners exist, and she surely will never acknowledge any!!!!].
