I enjoyed this movie.
No, it's not in a league with, say, the very best of Disney animated films. But it doesn't have to be. As one reviewer has pointed out, "Sing," a sweet little movie about big dreams and what we go through to make them happen, owes more to the popular Judy Garland-Mickey Rooney "hey kids, let's put on a show!" films of MGM's Golden Age.
The animation is lively, the colors pop, and the voice actors are exemplary, bringing heart, humor and energy to their cartoon counterparts. Kudos to Matthew McConaughey's yearning koala, Buster Moon (and Garth Jennings's kindly, creaky assistant, Miss Crawley).
A nod also to Reese Witherspoon's Rosita, a beleaguered mama pig who nevertheless knows how to command a stage (as does her hilariously dynamic dance partner, Gunter) when given the chance; husky-voiced Scarlett Johansson's teenage porcupine rocker, Ash; Taron Egerton's soulful Cockney ape, Johnny (whose song selections--Sam's Smith's poignant plea "Stay With Me" and Elton John's defiant anthem, "I'm Still Standing"--seem to reflect his ambivalent feelings for his felon dad); a shady, Sinatra-loving mouse named Mike (Seth MacFarlane) who thinks he stepped out of a Rat Pack flick; and maybe best of all, Tori Kelly's shy, sensitive pachyderm, Meena, whose powerhouse performance brings down the house.
Take a bow, everyone!
I’ll be straight up. I thought that this movie would be boring based off the trailers, they looked just like is going to be one long cringy and watching animals sing bad pop songs, and top of that i am not really a fan of Illumination, I don’t think they ever had a movie that’s really connected with me on a emotional level until now because I was wrong and Sing is great! I will even go as far as to say, I think this is Illumination best work. I have been critical of them because I feel like they really just make characters that are designed nice enough to sell toys. It is not a perfect movie it is not 10 out of 10,but what it is in my mind is a step in the right directions. Sing is a cheerful and delightful movie to watch with your kids, even adults like me, and top of that it is full of great characters all around the board. Overall, I’ll give it a 3 out of 5. The singing is great the story and just some flaws but not that bad. @moviefanatic of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board
I liked this cartoon DVD. It is good for all ages. A koala impresario stages a grand singing competition for the world's animals in order to save his elegant theater and bring it back to its former glory. Dapper Koala Buster Moon presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. An eternal optimist, and a bit of a scoundrel, he loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Facing the crumbling of his life's ambition, he takes one final chance to restore his fading historical building and the music held there.
Yes, we liked this movie, it seemed a little silly at first for two grown adults, and the events are, to put it mildly, unlikely, but it grows on you and the music is great....
This is an amazing movie! It is based around Dapper Koala Buster Moon presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. An eternal optimist, and a bit of a scoundrel, he loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Facing the crumbling of his life's ambition, he takes one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world's greatest singing competition. Five contestants emerge: a mouse, a timid elephant, a pig, a gorilla and a punk-rock porcupine. My favourite part of the movie would have to be either when Johnny’s dad escaped from prison just to see him and tell him how proud he was of him, heart-melting or the show when they all sang their songs amazingly! I loved the Set-it all free song, but the performance I liked the best would be the pigs dance. I would recommend this movie to people of all ages because it is a family friendly movie and it will entertain everyone no matter their ages. Overall, this is a fantastic movie! 5/5

"Sing” is movie that is very special. It has some of the all time best songs that the characters sing throughout the movie, it will make you want to sing along as well. This movie come with a very important and valuable lesson that should always be remembered and never forgotten. That lesson is to always follow your dreams and never let anything come in between that. Never listen to what others have to say if it is negative and never let your confidence go away. The movie is suitable for anyone to watch, not just kids. I wish this movie was more popular, but other than that, it’s a fantastic movie. 5/5 rating @TheBookieReadingMonster of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
