"A brazen, uproarious collection of illustrations of tough women both historical and fantastical-too awesome, too fierce, and sometimes too weird. These are not fantasy tales of blushing ingenues and happily-ever-afters. Here are the real unsung women of history, real and from literature, mythology and folklore. Illustrated in a contemporary animation style, Rejected Princesses dismisses the 'pretty pink princess' stereotype and profiles, through biography, imagery, wit, and humor, badass women throughout time and from all around the world. Warrior queens, soldiers, villains, spies, revolutionaries, and many more. Women of every era, ethnicity, class and orientation are pictured including a princess-cum-pirate from 5th century Denmark, a rebel preacher in 1630s Boston, a Hungarian blood thirsty countess, and a former prostitute that commanded a fleet of 70,000+ men on the Chinese seas. In Rejected Princesses, Jason Porath presents the female role models we never knew we needed! Fun, feminist, and educational, Rejected Princesses commemorates unknown but captivating female heroes, proving that women have been kicking ass for a long, long time and always will. Who needs Cinderella when you have Rejected Princesses?" -- Provided by publisher.

Really fascinating, so many historical figures (or mythological) that I hadn't heard of and some interesting facts about ones I already knew. Art is a bit amateur but I got used to it quickly and it helps the stories.

A beautifully illustrated and excellent introduction to women from all over the world and throughout history! Worth noting that they are all individually rated regarding the level of mature content -the further through the book you go the more mature the content- and any potential challenging issues are dot marked so you can decide which you wish to read.

Great selection of biographies, told with a delicious bit of snark when appropriate. I would probably have rated it higher if there had been any discernible organization beyond maturity of content.

This is an excellent way to bring to light some of the amazing women throughout history. With humor and beautiful illustrations, Rejected Princesses is a definite must read.

With over 300 pages covering the lives of numerous women throughout the history of humanity, 'Rejected Princesses' is an absolute treat to read! And the way the stories are 'rated' for the audience is an inclusive stroke of genius!

I can't find the words to express my gratitude to the author for writing this book. These are stories that the world needs to remember, celebrate and pass on to the next generation. These women (and/or legends) have just as many flaws as qualities to praise, which is the beauty of their lives for me. They reflect the deep complexity of the human condition and have given me the types of heroes I never had as a strong-willed girl growing up.

What a great collection of both well known and completely obscure women throughout history. I am glad Jason Porath took it upon himself to compile all of these stories and people in such a fun and unique way.

What a fantastic collection of stories about some of the coolest women to walk the earth! I appreciate the variety of countries and historical periods represented, and the illustrations are great. Definitely recommended for teen girls looking to learn about women; the inclusion of a content guide makes it accessible for younger readers if parents want to limit their readings to the less problematic stories.

An absolutely gorgeously illustrated non-fiction book about booty-kicking historical ladies. Some salty writing keeps you laughing but learning. Highly recommend if you like history!

So many brave and bold women from history with backgrounds that are a little too politically incorrect for a Disney movie. But these heroines get the full treatment here, their stories told in funny and accurate ways and each one is given a Disney-esque illustration. And since each story comes with guide markers for maturity ratings and any not-safe-for-kids subjects, everyone can find a story here that'll fit their girl power needs.
