I have now read Ishmael, Story of B, and My Ishmael. I think, to respond to daymakerdave, that the message is beyond the direct faults of totalitarian agriculture. The message is that living opposed to the laws of nature, broadly, is necessarily bringing us and the entire planet closer to extinction. Our culture has a worldview inconsistent with a sustainable, healthy lifestyle, and totalitarian agriculture is a symptom of this.

Okay, I get it already! Agriculture killed the world. Farming ruined the planet and destroyed society. I get it. Now that you know you can save yourself the time of reading "My Ishmael".

Although it's well written, thought provoking and can be quite entertaining, the repetition of it's main message becomes ridiculously overbearing. But on the other hand it's maing character is a talking gorilla named Ishmael so that's pretty cool.
