After 5 minutes, you'll know whether or not you want to watch the rest of the film.

I actually enjoyed it, with reasonably low expectations. It's pretty scatterbrained, but there's a plot of sorts. There's plenty of wirework and overdone stylized action like a typical kung fu B movie, but more blood and gore and of course the gangster elements. It's not pretentious (or no more than the average kung fu flick).

I liked it much better than Django Unchained.

I think this is the worst movie i have ever seen in my entire life to date period. The direction by the RZA is AWFUL.The script from the RZA and Eli Roth is AWFUL.Even the action choreography from Cory Yuen is so AWFUL i am starting to think that he is RACIST against black people period.Cory Yuen did the action choreography for some of the best action/adventure films i have ever seen made in the WEST as well as the EAST.However, the choreography Cory Yuen did on the RZA's dream movie right here looks like he DELIBERATELY did his worst work as an action choreographer to date period.Cory Yuen clearly wanted this movie TO FAIL for the RZA's sake, and that's exactly what happened at the box office when this came out last year period.Doing a parody of martial-arts films was clearly not RZA's intention for this movie, but he is so BAD at directing and writing a script that this is what his movie turned out to be unintentionally because of all the gore in this MUSIC VIDEO that was supposed to be his serious martial-arts dream action movie period.NONE of the non-black actors as well as RZA himself looked like they was having a good time, never mind put their best foot forward acting wise.More than likely all of the non-black actors was just going through the motions acting wise because they are RACIST against black people, which made matters much worse for the RZA as the director of this movie period. My advice for the RZA is this:DO NOT DIRECT,WRITE,AND STAR IN ANOTHER MOVIE EVER AGAIN PERIOD.YOU CAN'T EVEN ACT AS AN ACTOR MY BROTHER.STICK WITH PRODUCING MUSIC MY BROTHER BECAUSE THAT IS CLEARLY YOUR LANE FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY PERIOD.SO STAY IN YOUR LANE ONLY RZA,BUT YOU DON'T HEAR ME THOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty bad. If you just want to watch some kung-fu style special effects, go for it.

Low expectations helped me to enjoy this dumb-fun film that walks a line between clumsy homage and inadvertant spoof. The lavish production values and over-the-top weapon-toys help keep it frothily fulfilling.

5 stars for me as a genre movie in a genre I really enjoy, and I really enjoyed this. It's more than just Chinese, but Chinese novels, comics, and movies have created a special and wonderfully imaginative, complex and convoluted world of martial arts genre, replete with weird weapons, beautiful costumes, mysterious chi based powers, and lots of betrayals. RZA loves that fantastic imaginary world and has visualized beautifully and while it isn't 5 stars the way Citizen Kane or Casablanca is, it is a great addition to the genre. Hopefully RZA will be making some more like this.

If you go into this expecting a good movie, you will be disappointed, but taken for what it is, a violent, hip-hop kung-fu movie, it's at least entertaining. Wu-Tang master RZA directed, co-wrote (with Eli Roth) and stars and does not show the same genius with film as he does with music (oh, he does the music too). Like Tarantino's movies (he did not direct this, btw), this a mash-up/remix of many different styles and genres, but mostly Shaw Bros. movies, which gave Wu-Tang their name, "Enter the Dragon" and spaghetti westerns. When characters are talking, it's generally terrible, but when they are killing each other, it's generally pretty good. RZA is a blank, Russell Crowe seems to think he's Oliver Reed and Lucy Liu is basically playing her "Kill Bill" character. Again, don't expect much, especially in terms of plot and acting, but if you like over the top kung-fu action, you'll get it.

Several comments suggest that this is a Quentin Tarantino film, but it's not. It was written and directed by RZA, who stars as the Blacksmith, the main character. Eli Roth cowrote the screenplay and helped produce. Tarantino merely lent his name in a "presented by" credit. The film is *very* bloody and there are too many characters, most of whom die. The Blacksmith is not compelling, despite an interesting backstory and Pam Grier as his mother. My favorite fighters were the Geminis and Bronze Body.

WORST kung-fu movie EVER! I've seen hundreds of kung-fu movies over the last 40 years and this is the WORST. I turned it off two-thirds of the way through. Don't waste your time.

Sexual Content: Some sexual content but nothing to worry about.

Violence: Massive amounts of violence, but in a campy way as for all the blood that is portrayed in this film to be real the cast would have had to be a few thousand strong, and all would have had to have high blood pressure.
