Light-hearted fun & romance. Alex Lippo is a professional break-up artist, who uses his skills to help women who don't know they're unhappy to open their eyes and get out of a bad relationship. However, he falls in love with an assignment. As Alex, Romain Duris seemed more sleazy than sexy, with messy long hair and a stubble-beard. Vanessa Paradis as the assignment, the free-spirited auction expert daughter of a suspected mafia boss, never seems to warm. But I liked Alex's sister and her husband, the other members of the break-up team, who were funny, creative, always appearing in different roles as they supported Alex. At a hotel they're staking out, Alex's sister, dressed as a waitress at the hotel's restaurant, is confronted by one of the managers. "Haven't I just seen you as a housekeeper and as room service?" he challenges her. "Yes," she retorts quickly, "and I should talk to you about giving me a raise!" :-)

A French romantic comedy with some interesting bits about it. Better than most of its American counterparts, but then I don't think we believe in that kind of romance. Our perceptions of the fraud of it all seem to have made of the romance the bitter and crippled offspring of cynical filmmakers who, having achieved the ability to present facsimiles of almost everything now, present us with films that feign and fake their interest in the comings and goings of love. And thus fail to inspire. It's a bit hackneyed to say it, but God give me William Powell and Carol Lombard. They knew it was a fraud but did far better work even with that knowledge. I would not dare to claim that Duras and Paradis are working at that level, but there is about this an air of some credibility. Something to be found lacking quite often.

One of my all time favorite trailers. Romain Duris seems to have really good timing. After the trailer you don't quite realize you are witnessing a scam because it doesn't seem too out of the ordinary. Eventually you realize there is a formula and point of the story is the formula gets broken. Of course this being a romance comedy you know it will turn out ok. Valerie Paradis is also very good.

Great rom com, without the glossiness of a Hollywood movie. Yes, the stars are gorgeous but there is feeling and imperfection in it. Loved it.

Didn't care for this movie at all: I turned it off 50 minutes in. I didn't care at all for the storyline, the screenwriting left much to be desired, the two leads had no chemistry...the movie just didn't hold my interest to watch it through. For an excellent French romance that was released in 2010, see Mademoiselle Cambron. The Santa Clara County library system has it and you can put it on hold. So beautiful, so true of feeling...you wish all movies were as moving as that one!
