I am not familiar with the video game, but this movie was
enjoyable, and exceeded my low expectations just looking
at the dvd cover art. I wish I had the chance to have
seen it in the theatre, kids and adults of all ages should
enjoy it, I think.
awesome! so much action, especially at the end. I can't wait for sonic 2 !!!!!
This was so much better than I expected! I was rather unimpressed by the trailers, especially because the CGI looked vastly inferior to Pokemon Detective Pikachu (and it kinda was), but the acting really anchored this movie. James Marsden was amazing, and Ben Schwartz struck a perfect balance between comedy and emotional moments. I'm really not a Jim Carrey fan AT ALL, like normally I'm super irritated by him in every movie, but he NAILED this role. It was spot on, and completely believable. Hands down my favorite performance of his. Oh, and I had pretty much zero knowledge of Sonic the Hedgehog and still really enjoyed it! Definitely check this one out.
I think it was a nice video game themed movie. The previews made it look a bit less exciting than the actual movie. James Marsden did a fantastic job and really helped with the film. He played a good character and made it enjoyable to watch and suspend your disbelief for enough time to carry on the storyline. Jim Carrey played the sonic villain very well -- above the top, but in a way tailored to the role. Overall, the film was enjoyable, fast-paced (no pun intended) and would be enjoyable to rent for the kids. It does have a fair amount of "cartoon style" abuse, but obviously understanding your own kids will certainly help you determine whether it's right for them. Must watch.

This movie was probably one of the funniest movies I have watched. This movie had various funny characters such as Sonic himself and Doctor Egg man. The humor in the movie was understandable for both children and adults. Even though I am not a big Sonic fan or a video game person, I really enjoyed this movie. It was surprising, hilarious, and heartwarming. What I liked about this movie was the animation of Sonic, he looked very real and his spikes and fur looked real as well. The plot was also great, and the ending had me wanting more. I believe there might be a second movie in the coming years. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to try something new or to a video game fan. 5/5 stars

"Overall, I really like this movie. James Marsden working off a puppet or whatever they used for a physical Sonic was great. It never came off that “oh yeah, I’m acting to air”. It was done well. Ben Schwartz was great as Sonic, he was likable, charming, funny and emotional when he had to be..." Copy and paste the link below for the rest of the review!
I've been working on my own sonic movie for a while myself ya know.
I would love for my sonic OC to be included into the next film in the series.
Her name is gypsy and she's an elementalist pangolin who came from the future to save us from the wrath of mother nature. I'm thinking of having her have a character arc about self discover and empowerment but with a little bit of a dark past that gets thrown into the mix.
When she discovers that her parents are part of an evil time bending cult that wants to return earth to a primordial state she sets out from her comfortable life to join up with sonic and the gang to save the new home she discovers upon her time on earth. I think it will be a great tale that a lot of people can relate to.
Good movie and funny.
Classic Jim Carey - over acting and he's just not funny anymore.
My kids loved it though.
Video game based movies get a bad wrap from us fans as they are often made as cash grabs and made with lukewarm enthusiasm.
Sonic is a rare exception as I could tell it was made by everyone involved with a great deal of love and respect to the Sega character.
This movie is a lot of fun and just might actually be my personal favorite video game movie ever made. Definitely check it out, and be sure to watch till after the main credits at the end for an incredible tease at a sequel.
Much better than expected! After the nightmare-fuel of the original sonic design, Sega and paramount redesigned the character to actually look like Sonic. Jim Carrey as Robotnik is the highlight of the movie.
This movie exceeded my expectations. It was hilarious and sweet and you really fall in love with Sonic, who has you in fits of laughter and really makes you smile. I do think that the star of this movie would be Jim Carrey, who brings his quirky and full of life personality to the screen through the character of Dr Robotnik, a lovable childhood character.
This was a very fun, good-natured movie. Multiple laugh out loud moments and a nice story to carry things along. The Sonic I remember from the games and cartoons had a little more toe-tapping attitude, but I think this slightly-less-smart-talkin' Sonic works better for a full-length movie. Jim Carrey was pretty fun. Kids will definitely dig it. Extremely sophisticated and discerning adults will too.
While not one for the ages, this was a fun family flick. My kids and I laughed a lot.
This is probably the best Video Game to Movie in ever created. Kids enjoyed it. There was something funny for parents.
The only thing is Sonic is no longer an animal savior as he is an alien teenager in a new world trying to fit in. In the games, he would try to save animals, in the movie he was just lonely and wanted friends and family.
Either way, the movie is a joy and Jim Carrey's appearance and performance as Dr. Robotnik is great!
Cool! I really wanted to see this movie in the works. Now I can thank the HCLIB for this!
