In the future, it's vampires vs. warrior priests! People seem to be taking this movie a little too seriously. It's ridiculous and it rips off like 20 other movies, but it's enjoyably dumb if you're in the right mood. Paul Bettany plays a fighting priest (Don't ask.) with a tattoo of a cross on his forehead who is going after vampires (Led by Karl "Bones" Urban.) who stole his niece. The fx and action are pretty decent and I always like Paul Bettany. Bettany and director Scott Stewart also did "Legion." Christopher Plummer is slumming it, but is only in for like 10 minutes. Turn off your inner film critic and enjoy.
It was ok. Over the top and semi-cheesy action sequences. I do like Paul Bettany.
if you can"t sleep at night this the movie for you a time waster. that's about it.
movie was entertaining, I do like how they mix sci-fi, religion, western and horror into one. They do take ideas from other movies, but nothing is original anymore, only a remix of something that is already there. Parts that are very cheesy, and others feel comical, but will entertain you.
Good acting and plenty of action. Different twist on your average vampire movie.
A few big names and some very good actors but sadly a very poor movie. It is trying too hard to be a cheesy kung-fu movie and not achieving even that lowly a standard.
It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.
I really liked this movie. In the beginning I was bored and wanted to go read. Ater a while it started to get really interseting. I just wish they would do a second. It was good, but the Priests didn't have very much emotion, so it was hard to see if they cared. Slow beginning, okay middle, and about half way through it got really good.
Yeah, some plot elements taken from John Ford's classic, "The Searchers." Yet even in his bilious rage, Ethan was more interesting than this paper-thin hero. Better to sit home and watch Ford's work than to watch this one. Wondering when it became a viable strategy, an acceptable strategy to just put plotting tropes into a brown paper sack and pull some out and call it a "film." (Oh, and it's his daughter, not his niece. I guess this was supposed to add some depth-of-character. It failed.)
The movie had potential but it failed miserably. Too many cliches, nothing original. I am glad they will not be making a sequel.
Futuristic ninja biker priests (lol) vs. 'Black Hat', a Clint Eastwood wanna-be, and his ugly band of CGI vampire ghoulies, battling over an abducted girl. A poorly done ripoff of the John Wayne movie: "The Searchers", where the cowboys are now priests, the horses are motorcycles, and the native American 'Indians' are vampires. Transparent DUD.
For all the bad reviews this film got, I quite enjoyed it. Sure, the dialog is terrible and not much depth to the characters, but the dystopian future setup is fresh and has a cool steampunk feel to it, and the film doesn't drag.
Derivative, laughable and hodge-podge are the three words that come to mind to describe Priest. Not only does it steal from sci-fi tropes (Star Wars and the Matrix) and horror tropes (mediocre fare such as the film I Am Legend) it can't seem to hold its own story together. Paul Bettany, who has done much better work, can't save the movie from itself. Christopher Plummer also finds himself in the midst of this tomato. Perhaps he was seeking directions for a way out of the script.
When movies are this bad, I normally have at least a little chuckle. Nope, just plain BAD. Don't waste your time on this one. It's 2 hours of my life I won't get back.
Simple futuristic Vampire and human story with decent enough special effects.
really good movie but i lost the case at a friends house there stupid they lose everything im pissed i have to pay for it now but i have the disc and they wont return it brinah there not going to make another one
Fails as horror.
Fails as science fiction.
Fails as a story.
If I didn't know it involved vampires, I would have thought it dealt with zombies, because all of the actors are extremely lifeless.
Avoid this at all cost. Run, don't walk, away from this film.
One of the more original vampire movies you will find. Nice action sequences. Filmmakers had to create an entire world with vampires, the church as all-governing, powerful corporation type , and priests with kung fu skills. Things like motorcycles and weapons and guns had to be re-imagined from ground up. Kudos for all the creative work. Cons are the stilted dialogue, so-so acting, and yeah....you have to suspend the laws of physics or two....but then, this is a vampire movie afterall.
Fair - Dark vampire flick set in the distant future as the "Church" defends mankind against the preying hoard using the abilities of priests trained in mortal combat. The priesthood is a vocation that is supposed to spread peace to the community and help mankind get closer to God; guess things change radically in the future for our brothers. Though the fight scenes are impressive, the film lacks any empathy for the characters.
I haven't read any of the graphic novels ( I plan to. NOT based on this movie.) but this movie was pretty much a let down. The movie looked very good. The costumes and special effects were top notch. The movie LOOKED really cool. however, the writing, acting and story were very blah. Vanilla. The stylized action scenes were entertaining, but not enough to make me really like this movie.
Just ok. I was expecting much more. Looks like there may be a sequel. Hope its better.
