I had a difficult time getting through this book. I read the whole book because it's one my book club chose. It seemed, to me, that the story was always just about ready to 'take off', but never really did. The characters were unsympathetic to me. I didn't care much what happened to them. The book lacked a cohesiveness throughout.I had a difficult time getting through this book. I read the whole book because it's one my book club chose. This book held promise for me. Interesting 'take' on the Hansel and Gretel story. However, after about 200 pages, I had an extremely difficult time getting through the description of WW2 atrocities.
Summary:
Two Jewish Polish children are taken in by a witch/wise woman during World War Two. This book is not quite what I was expecting. There is a sinister darkness that appears throughout. I, personally, found it difficult to read halfway through, due to the descriptions of some of the Nazi atrocities. Others have enjoyed it, but it didn't set well with my sensitivities. Two Jewish Polish children are taken in by a witch/wise woman during World War Two. This book is not quite what I was expecting. I didn't know what to expect from this book. The title intrigued me. The story kept me second-guessing who the "good guys" and who the "bad guys" are. I couldn't put this book down. It swiftly carried me to the surprising ending.

A long-established writer, I discovered her recently. I could not put this book down. A great summer read.
Summary:
A recently-laid off woman is down to her last few dollars. She's hocked everything she has and is forced to work for her bail bondsman uncle as a bounty hunter just to buy groceries. The story follows her exploits at learning the business while tracking a most uncanny bond-skipper. In the interim, she meets up with some really inscrutable characters.A recently-laid off woman is down to her last few dollars.
