"We often wait for kindness... but being kind to yourself can start now," said the Mole.
This book is both tender and beautiful. Reminiscent of The Little Prince or The House at Pooh Corner, this book can be enjoyed in multiple ways by many ages. The illustrations are full of motion and tend toward loose sketching and watercolor to set the mood. The text is wise, funny and encouraging and while you can go through it very quickly in one sitting, you'll want to revisit it again and again.
Highly recommended!"We often wait for kindness... but being kind to yourself can start now," said the Mole.

Llama loves cake! And dancing! Unfortunately, these two things cause the end of the world. Something could maybe have been done to save those turtles in top hats and their tea cups if only Llama didn't also love bologna sandwiches with way too much cheese and also painting. This is a very silly and adorably illustrated picture book. The cake illustrations will appeal, as will Llama saying "Dat!" instead of "That!"Llama loves cake! And dancing! This wordless picture book has great illustrations that tell a strange and dreamlike story. It begins with a girl and her cat asleep in her room. Another cat, just alike except wearing a blue collar instead of red, creeps in through a floating portal and steals the red toy mouse. Thus begins an adventure where children and their match play together in a space without boundaries. A great read at bedtime to talk about possibilities and whether it was all a dream. This wordless picture book has great illustrations that tell a strange and dreamlike story. Whimsy and fantasy combine in Cowell's new series. Prince Xar of the Wizards is rather full of himself, even though he's 13 and his magic hasn't grown in yet. He's still certain he's the Boy of Destiny and decides that trapping a Witch (who everyone is sure are extinct) and stealing the magic for himself is just the ticket. Princess Wish of the Warriors heads into the Badwoods Forest to find her living spoon. Being slightly sensible, she brings her Assistant Bodyguard and this wonderful Enchanted Sword she finds in her mother's courtyard. The sword arrives just in time as it is the ancient enemy of Witches, who turn out to be not as extinct as believed. Xar's and Wish's paths collide and combine as they must overcome enemies both familiar and strange. I'm going to have to listen to the audiobook, as it recently received and Odyssey Audio Honor Award with David Tennant narrating.Whimsy and fantasy combine in Cowell's new series. Carmen is so talented! Singer, musician, actress, costume and scene designer, Carmen does it all. And, in fact, rather isn't too interested in sharing the stage with her hermanito, her little brother. She makes him a rock for her next performance, then makes him a lamp, so his face can't even be seen. Her parents express weariness with all the show biz, but tell her she has a fan, if she'd just let him show it. Carmen discovers what it's like to sit and have to watch all the action and not participate. So, she and her brother work out a new show where everyone plays a part, even her parents. I LOVE the illustration style in this adorable picture book. I love the POC family and the sprinkling of Spanish. A delightful read for your little show stopper!Carmen is so talented! This book was waiting for me on the new arrivals shelf. I read it, and then passed it around to every staff member who was working with me at the time. This is a great message of empowerment to young girls. Ask questions. Answer them. You don't have to dress a certain way or have your hair cut in any particular manner. If you feel like you should say no, then speak up and say no! Find your common interest friends, but also look for people who aren't like yourself to listen to as well. A delightful keepsake for any young girl from any other person who cares about them, not just from mothers. I plan on getting this for my niece! This book was waiting for me on the new arrivals shelf. This new picture book by Lemony Snicket is melancholy but also encouraging. It can be hard to find good company out in the world. It doesn't always seem to be where you might think you'd find someone whose presence is enjoyable. Recognizing when it's good to hang out with someone and when to move on can be a difficult skill. The illustrations also have a lot of sly hints and humor, so look carefully. And the short quote opposite the title page is lovely, "I can't believe you are gone out of my life. So you are not." - Audre LordeThis new picture book by Lemony Snicket is melancholy but also encouraging. It can be hard to find good company out in the world. Rupert just wants to star in a beautiful and artistic wordless picture book. But his friends, Nibbs and Thistle, manage to comically ruin the plan by talking about the book. Fresh voiced urban fantasy set in London engages with humor and unusual characters.
Sharon Li became one with the city of London for a moment, all of the wrappers blowing in the streets, the steps taken down sidewalks, the stop signs and lost mittens. After that, she discovers that she can become invisible and walk through walls. How does one in modern times deal with changes like this? She starts a Facebook group to gather together beings in a Magicals Anonymous support group. Being a shaman means having a tribe, after all. Which turns out to be rather useful when trying to stop the souls of the city buildings from being stolen and turned to the use of dark magics.Fresh voiced urban fantasy set in London engages with humor and unusual characters.

This picture book with chubbily adorable illustrations is a wonderful addition to the genre about not fitting in and being yourself. Kelp was born in the sea, but he isn't a good swimmer and doesn't like the food that narwhals eat. Swept close to land by a current, he sees creatures that look like he does. After some beginning awkward missteps (literally), Kelp travels on land and finds unicorns.
This leads to a "coming out" moment where Kelp tells the narwhals he was raised with that he's actually a unicorn. They say of course, and welcome him no matter what he calls himself, as do the unicorns. An amusing and sweet book with no elements of bullying to distract from Kelp's journey. This picture book with chubbily adorable illustrations is a wonderful addition to the genre about not fitting in and being yourself. This graphic novel plays with the theme of seconds in a number of ways. Katie is working at one restaurant, but also trying to open a second one. Her food is so delicious, everyone wants seconds. She's casually seeing one guy, but still has feelings for her ex. She wants to fix a mistake that leaves a sweet co-worker hospitalized, and she gets a second chance with a magic mushroom. She wants to fix more than just that one mistake, even though she's only supposed to have one, so she goes back for seconds (and thirds and more). The house spirit, Lis, who gave her the first mushroom has to fight with Katie to battle a second spirit that Katie inadvertently invites into Lis' realm. Oh, and the restaurant where Katie made a name for herself in town as a hot chef is called "Seconds."
